KENOSHA, WI–(Marketwired – Aug 10, 2015) – Kenosha’s “Grill Games is one of the best contests we compete in, not in small part due to the beautiful lakefront location.” So said Terri Hartl of the Risky Brisket Barbeque team after last year’s Kenosha Grill Games.
The 2015 Kenosha Grill Games BBQ Competition and Lakefront Festival is scheduled for August 28 and 29 at Kenosha’s “Celebration Place,” located east of the Civil War Museum overlooking Lake Michigan.
The free event is sponsored by the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation in partnership with the Kenosha YMCA. Thousands of BBQ and music enthusiasts are drawn to the competition which this year will again feature some of the finest BBQ teams in America.
“Grill Games is a sanctioned event by the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS),” said Lou Molitor, President and CEO of the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce. Admission to the event is free.
The Kansas City Barbecue Society competition features four scrumptious levels of competition on Saturday and will award $7,000 in prize money! Over 40 teams from across America will put their culinary twist on barbecued chicken, pork ribs, pork and beef brisket.
Event attendees who want to sample and vote on the professional contestant’s entries, can do so by purchasing a $10 Saturday Taste Card at the Grill Games informational tent or online. Samples will be served from 2-7 p.m. and winning chefs will be announced as winners of the People’s Choice awards on Saturday evening.
The local vendor Kenosha’s Best BBQ competition for restaurants, pubs and caterers is Friday. Taste cards for that competition are also available online or at the Chamber of Commerce “Grill Games” informational tent for $10. The Friday vendor contestants will be grilling from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, with “Kenosha’s Best” to be named based on the voting immediately after the contest closes.
There will also be an opportunity for those who view themselves as expert bbq grillers to enter the Community BBQ Challenge at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
Another option for Grill Games attendees is to purchase a ticket for the Beer Gardens, which is open to anyone over the age of 21. Tickets to the Beer Garden are available in advance for $30 online and from the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce. They will also be sold at the Grill Games tent at the event for $35. Beer Garden admission includes draft beer, snacks throughout the day, and meals served on Friday at 5 p.m. and on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. There will even be private bathrooms!
Grill Games attendees who prefer to just enjoy the music and make individual purchases will be able to do so from many vendors offering such Wisconsin culinary delights as Wisconsin cheese curds, shaved ice, beer brats, corn on the cob, pulled pork sandwiches and many other grilled delicacies.
While the grilling is the theme of the event, music provides the backdrop for keeping it fun, entertaining and, again, admission is FREE.
This year several great bands will perform on two separate stages:

3:30-5 p.m. Band TBD (Platform Stage)
5-7 p.m. Dan Peters and the Sidewinders (Main Stage)

Grill Games is fun for the entire family and will once again feature many children-oriented activities including bouncy houses and games.
All of the money raised at Grill Games benefits the foundations of the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce and the Kenosha YMCA.
Sponsorships are key to the success of the event. This year Festival Foods is the major sponsor. Seven other major community sponsors are also supporting the event, including Lynch Chevrolet, CJW, Snap-on Incorporated, Gruber Law Offices, Uline, Ocean Spray and Best Western Harborside.
“Grill Games in Kenosha is the perfect way to end the summer festival season” Molitor stated. “In 2015, we celebrate five years with plenty of music, plenty of great BBQ, plenty of fun competition and plenty of family fun!” For more information, visit www.grillgames.org.
